Showcase by The Beach Report

We covered the Showcase by The Beach event this weekend hosted by Cali Rebels, Gamepoint and Cali Stars and it was absolutely loaded with talent on various levels. We watched many hard-nosed and competitive games as these teams are preparing for the July Live Periods Events. We focused on a few programs this weekend and below are players that stood out with their play. July will be big for these players and all looking forward to covering these guys and more this summer.

Martin Gumwel 6-11 Calvin Christian – Gamepoint 2023

Super athletic big that rebounds well and high above the rim. Runs the floor really well and has good hands. Saw multiple catches on the break which either he finished with dunks or made the proper opposite side pass to the open guard. Finished well with both hands and is not afraid to battle down on the block. His long arms caused him to alter many shots this weekend.

CJ Hardy 6-3 El Segundo – Elev8 2021

One word “Motor” there is not one play going on that he is not playing hard and on both ends. He might have been the fastest player we saw this weekend. Very under control and gets out on the break and is either finishing or making a play for others. Shoots it very well out to the 3 but his ability to drive and get to the basket is strong and quick.

Devean Williams 6-4 Undecided – Fastbreak Sports 2022

Not many score like him and with the ease that he scores, has the package finishes at the rim and over defenders, has a mid-range jumper that seems to be a lost art and shoots out to the 3 at a high rate as well. A very underrated passer and a tough defender seemed to take on the opposing best player which was refreshing to see. Will be interesting to see where he lands with his stock rising so high.

Jed Miller 6-2 Southern California Academy – CA Stars 2022

Absolute knock down shooter, shot it at a very high rate this weekend and did it in multiple ways. Off the one dribble bounce, and in transition. Was not a player that should have been left open but when he was guarded, he moved back and showed his range.

Roddie Anderson 6-2 Fountain Valley – Cali Rebels 2022

POINT GUARD absolute leader on both ends and defends. Took a charge or two this weekend and took them right in the chest. Lead his team to several victories with his heads up play and his lead guard skills. His passing skills are impressive because he is able to continually drive and kick and finish at the rim. Jumper has improved as well. If he continues to make shots, he will be tougher to guard.

Maurice Wright 6-3 Santa Clarita Christian – I-Can Allstars 2023

A very smart and young point guard that seems to be developing well. He made plays all weekend and got his team involved like a lead guard should. Very athletic and got to the basket pretty easy on most plays. Definitely a guard to keep eyes on.
